EDGAR L. GREEN

Edgar L. Green, age 79, Harrodsburg, died Thursday at his residence after a long illness. A native of Illinois, he was the son of the late John Lee and Mable Christman Green and widower of Jewell Cummins Green. He was a retired employee of the Watts and Durr Oil Company and Northpoint Training Center and a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church

 

Survivors include a daughter, Louise Nowlin, Harrodsburg, a step-daughter, Barbara Pinkston, Danville, a step-son, William Prewitt, Lexington; three grandchildren Charles Nowlin, Timmy Nowlin, and Crystal Jarvis, all of Harrodsburg; 2 step grandchildren, Johnny and Joe Mays, two great grandchildren, Daniel Jarvis and Rebecca Jarvis, and a special caregiver, Mary Hooper, Harrodsburg. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Geneva Gardner Green, 2 step-daughters, Betty Butler and Nancy Mayes, two sisters Edna Huckstep and Margie Farney, two brothers, Willie Green and Horrist Green, and three grandchildren, Betty Ann Devine, Randall Leon Devine, and Andy Lee Devine.

           

Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 pm Saturday at the Harrodsburg Baptist Church by Bro. Larry Camic. Burial will be in the Springhill Cemetery.

           

Visitation will be from 11 am Saturday until the time of service at the church.

 
Pallbearers are Ricky Burns, James Tewmey, Marshall Hockersmith, Ralph Byrd, Keith Smith, and Daisey Niel.  An honorary bearer is Fred Purvis.

IN MEMORY OF
BEN A. ALDRIDGE
August 4, 1954 ~ March 21, 2008

Ben A. Aldridge, age 53, Robards Court, Harrodsburg, died Friday, March 21, 2008 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center after a long illness. Born August 4, 1954 in Louisville, he was the son of the late Ernest and Margaret Motter Aldridge. He was an O’Reilly Auto Parts employee in Lexington and was a member of the Baptist faith.

 

Survivors include his wife, Cheryl Aldridge, Lexington; one son, Benjamin Aldridge, Lexington, one daughter, Margaret Aldridge, Lexington; two brothers, Glen Aldridge, Nicholasville and Thomas M. Aldridge, Harrodsburg; one nephew, Brian Aldridge, Danville; three nieces, Andrea, Kathryn, and Rebecca Aldridge, all of Harrodsburg. He was preceded in death by a brother Richard Motter.

 

A private memorial service will be held at a later date. The Parks Funeral Home of Harrodsburg in charge of arrangements.

IN MEMORY OF
OLLIE ANN MILLER
December 25, 1915 ~ March 11, 2008

Ollie Ann Miller, widow of Charles L. Miller, age 92, Danville, died Tuesday, March 11, 2008 at her residence. Born December 25, 1915 in Madison, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late George and Roma Mae Price Miller. She was a sales clerk, housewife, and a member of the Harrodsburg church of Christ.

 

Survivors include: one daughter, Carolyn (Tony) Mullins, Danville; a sister, Sibyl Barnes, Norwood, Ohio; seven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter Charlene Miller and a brother Ernest L. Miller.

 

Graveside funeral services will be conducted 2:00 pm Friday, March 14, 2008 at the Price Hill Cemetery in Madison, West Virginia.

 

A private visitation for family and church friends will be held Thursday at the Parks Funeral Home. Contributions are suggested to Heritage Hospice, Inc., 337 West Broadway Street, Danville, KY 40422. The Parks Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

April 20, 1935 ~ February 22, 2008

 

Clarene Taylor, age 72, formerly of Harrodsburg, died Friday, February 22, 2008 at the Pembroke Nursing and Rehab Center in Pembroke, KY after a long illness. Born April 20, 1935 at Talmage, KY she was the daughter of the late Hampton “Tim” Taylor Sr. and Russie VanDyke. She was a member of the Dividing Ridge Baptist Church at Mayo, KY.

 

Survivors include two brothers: Tim Taylor, Jr., Panama City, FL and Walter Taylor, Harrodsburg; two sisters: Maitha Meaux and Elizabeth Harris, both of Harrodsburg. She was predeceased by a twin sister Adelene Taylor.

 

Funeral Services will be conducted 1:00 pm Monday, February 25, 2008 at the Parks Funeral Home by Bro. Herman Bradshaw.  Burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery.

 

Visitation will be from 11:00 am until the time of service at the funeral home.

Paula L. Young, age 52, Cummins Drive, Harrodsburg, died Sunday, January 20, 2008 at the UK Medical Center after a long illness. Born January 28, 1955 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late Leroy Young and Grace P. Bess. She was a 1974 graduate of Harrodsburg High School where she was selected as “Most Athletic” during her senior year. She was a member of the St. Peter AME Church where she was also a member of the Women’s Ministry and Lay Organization.

Survivors include a sister, Gracie Allen, Harrodsburg; three step-sisters, Mary Agnes Young, Arnessa Gale Young, and Annetta Young Bartleson, all of Harrodsburg; three step brothers, Leroy Anthony Young, Danville, Danny Lee Young, and Alfred Thomas Young, both of Harrodsburg; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Graveside services will be conducted 1:00 pm Wednesday in the Maple Grove Cemetery by Bro. Ralph Smith. Burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery.

Arzell Davis Walker, Jr., age 64, Harrodsburg, husband of Louise Dean Walker, departed this life at 7:50 am on Friday, January 11, 2008 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital after an extended illness. Born December 1, 1943 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of the late Arzell Davis Walker Sr. and Mary Louise Hardin. He was a retired employee of Universal Buttons in Lawrenceburg and member of the Centennial Baptist Church.

Survivors other than his wife include: three daughters, Joyce Walker Dean and Sandy Walker, both of Harrodsburg, and Mary (David) Burns of Baltimore, MD; four brothers, Keith, Glenn, and Gary Walker all of Harrodsburg and Carl Walker of Columbus, OH.; one sister Mary Francis Dunn, Harrodsburg; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild; four sisters-in-law, Carolyn Dean Rivera, Mary Dean Vaughn, Christine Dean Edelen, and Betty Dean Black and one brother-in-law, Robert Lewis Dean. He was preceded in death by a brother, George Howard Walker.

Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 pm Tuesday, January 15, 2008 at the Centennial Baptist Church by Elder J.D. Short, III, and Bros. Windrell Hunn and Herman Bradshaw. Burial was in the Maple Grove Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Tuesday from 11:00 am until the hour of service at the Church.

Active pallbearers are: James Elery, Wayne Andrews, Larry Andrews, Vester Young, Robert Dean, Jr., Tyrone Dean, Lamont Trigg, Jerome Dean, Antonio Dean, James Elery, Jr., James Lyons and Richard Lee Dean, Jr.

Frances "Fran" George Botner
1924-2007

Frances “Fran” Botner, age 83, of Beaumont Avenue, widow of Stanley A. Botner, died Thursday, December 27, 2007 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Manor after an extended illness. Born April 4, 1924 in Shady Grove, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late Sam Henry and Dora Ethel Ardry George. She was former co-owner of Botner Drug Store in Harrodsburg, was a clerk and reservationist at Shakertown for 19 years, a member of the Harrodsburg Women’s Club, Mercer Bowling League, 4-H Club Leader, Girl Scout Leader, Boy Scout Leader and a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church.

Survivors include: two sons, Stanley Arthur Botner II, Harrodsburg and Gregory George Botner, Danville; two daughters, Deborah Botner Sims, Orlando, FL and Lisa Botner Goodrich, Harrodsburg; a sister Libby Copley, Columbia, TN and six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers: Paul and Mervin George and one great-grandchild, Silas Botner.

A graveside memorial service will be conducted 2:00 PM Sunday, January 6, 2007 in the Springhill Cemetery by Father John Hall, Rector of the St. Philips Episcopal Church in Harrodsburg. Visitation will be Saturday, January 5, 2007 from 5 until 8 pm at the Parks Funeral Home.

Charlene Ann Miller, 70, of Bluegrass Pike, Danville died Monday December 17, 2007 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center after a short illness.  Born January 1, 1937 in Madison WV, she was the daughter of Ollie Miller and the late Charlie Miller.  She dedicated her life to her 5 children and was a member of the Harrodsburg church of Christ.

Survivors include her mother, Ollie Ann Miller of Danville, two sons, Tom (Kathy) Miller, Danville and Clarence Miller, Cleveland, OH; two daughters, Kathy (Tim) Stringer, Denton, TX and Stephanie Miller, Junction City; a sister, Carolyn (Tony) Mullins, Danville, 8 grandchildren, Matt, Shannon, Josh, Samantha, Lakin, Zachary and Jarek Miller and Ashley Kilgore; 2 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by a son, Charlie Miller.

Funeral service will be conducted 6 PM Thursday, December 20, 2007 at the Parks Funeral Home by Mike Estes Burial will be held at 3 PM Friday, December 21, 2007 at the Price Hill Cemetery in Madison, WV. Visitation will be Thursday from 4 until the hour of service at the Parks Funeral Home.

JOHN "JUNE" WILEY SMITH, JR.
November 5, 1926 ~ November 16, 2007

John "June" Wiley Smith, Jr., age 81, formerly of English Avenue, Harrodsburg, departed this life on Friday, November 16, 2007 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Center after a long illness. 

 

Born in McAfee, KY, he was the son of the late John Wiley and the late Laura (Jones) Smith, Sr.  and widower of the late Ella Bell Allen Smith. He was a graduate of West Side High School where he was Class Valedictorian; he was a US Army veteran of WW II, was a former employee of Royalty-Keightley Lumber Co. after 51 years of service, and a member of the Salvisa Methodist Church. 

Survivors include five sons: John (Jean) Wiley Smith, Steven Smith, Cecil (Beverly) Smith, Joey (Loretta) Smith all of Harrodsburg and Don (Carol) Smith, Danville; one daughter, Loretta (Robert) Bean, Harrodsburg; several grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by two sisters: Christine Bradshaw and Jennie Bartleson. 

Funeral service will be held 1:00 PM Tuesday, November 20, 2007 at the St. Peter AME Church by Bro. Ralph Smith and Elder J.D. Short III. Burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery with military rites. Visitation will be from 5 until 8 PM Monday, November 19, 2007 at the church.

Active Pallbearers are: Alvis Johnson, John Mitchell, C.L. Bartleson, James Payne, Andy Harris, Robert Harris, Sam Wheat, and Jose’ Walker. Honorary bearers are: James Williams, James Royalty, Remont Mays, Charles Dunn, Duke Dunn, and Marvin Swan.

Henry Edward Cooper, Jr., age 59, 843 Chimney Rock Road, Harrodsburg, husband of Kim Crum Cooper died Friday, August 24, 2007 at his residence after a lengthy illness. Born January 13, 1948 in Lexington, KY, he was the son of the late Henry Edward Cooper, Sr. and Lenora Cox Cooper. He was owner and operator of Cooper Drywall Construction and was a former employee of IBM in Lexington. He was also a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War.

Survivors other than his wife include: a son, Henry Edward “Buck” Cooper, III, Lexington; one daughter, Yvonne Cooper Neal, Versailles; two brothers, Charles Cooper, Lexington and Frank Cooper, Lawrenceburg, and seven grandchildren.

Lillian Elizabeth Cunningham, age 88, Haggin Extended Care, Harrodsburg, departed this life on Friday, July 06, 2007 at the extended care. Born April 14, 1919 in Anderson County, she was the daughter of the late Guy and Beulah McKee Harvey and the widow of Arthur Cunningham. She was a graduate of Lawrenceburg High School, was a nurse’s aide at Noel’s Rest Home and Hill’s Rest Home for several years and was a member of the Centennial Baptist Church. 

She leaves behind to cherish her memories one son, Wilgus Thomas Hayden, Sr., Harrodsburg; two daughters, Lillian (Silviano) Hernandez and Lucille Hayden, both of Harrodsburg; one sister Cordelia Washington, Louisville; sixteen grandchildren, James Williams, Jr., Winfield Williams, Juanelle Brown, Jamie Williams, Perry Williams, Gary Honaker, Angela Hayden, Wilgus T. Hayden, Jr., Antonio Dean, Tommy McKenzie, Mariah Sallee, Alex Derringer, Francine, Jones, Wanda Patton, Tracey Jones, and Ronda Parks; several great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and lots of “Granny’s” children. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles Harvey, Burnett O. Hayden, and James Walker; five sisters, Fannie Mae Price, Emma Louise Harvey, Cornelia Goshen, Lillie Mae Curtis, and Tootsie Harvey and two grandchildren Odessa Winn and Evelyn Ryan. 

Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 pm Monday, July 9, 2007 at the Centennial Baptist Church by Elder J.D. Short, III. Burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery (Section M, Lot 2, and Grave 8) in Harrodsburg. Visitation will be from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm Sunday, July 8, 2007 and prior to the service Monday, July 9, 2007 at the Centennial Baptist Church.  

Active pallbearers are: Paul Ellis, Guy Harvey, Jewell Gill, Ernie Guthrie, William Murphy, and Gary Brown. Honorary bearers are: Hosea Walker, Bentley Jones, Tim Jones, William Bartleson, DeWayne Buster and Charles Winn.

IDA MAE TACKETT

Ida Mae Tackett, age 94, 200, Glenway Road, Winchester, died Wednesday, May 30, 2007 at the Winchester Center for Health and Rehabilitation after a long illness. Born May 2, 1913, she was the daughter of the late Bill and Georgia Kemplin Bryant and widow of the late Curtis Ford Tackett. She was a retired Vegetarian Gardener and a member of the Winchester Church of Christ. 

Survivors include her caretakers: Tom and Patty Edwards, Berea, KY and several friends at the Winchester Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by a son, Jesse Banfield and a daughter, Teresa Banfield. 

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 am Saturday, June 2, 2007 at the Scobee Funeral Home by Robert Speer. Burial will be in the Miller Cemetery in Stanton, KY. Visitation will be from 9:00 am until the hour of service at the Scobbe Funeral Home in Winchester.

Virginia Gail Mason, age 50, 139 Hill Street, Bloomfield, died Monday, April 30, 2007 at the Hospice of Louisville Inpatient Pavilion in Louisville. She was the daughter of Rebecca Miller Duncan Mason, Bloomfield and the late Charles Estern Mason. She was an assembly line worker for Texas Instruments in Versailles and was a member of the Wesley Chapel Methodist Church in Chaplin.

Survivors other than her mother include: one daughter, Taketia Lavett Mason, Bloomfield; two brothers, William Otis Mason and his companion Beulah Bishop, Bloomfield and Charles Anthony (Butch) and his wife Jennifer Lane [Formerly of Harrodsburg] Mason, Bardstown; one sister Emma Francis Allaway, Troy, New York; two grandchildren Labrison and Labrent Maddox, Bloomfield; and a special companion, Charles Grundy, Bloomfield; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by a brother Raymond Carol Maddox and a Sister Alberta Mason.

Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 pm Wednesday, May 2, 2007 at the Campbell Chapel Methodist Church in Bloomfield by Rev. Robert Marshall. Burial will be in the Bloomfield Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 until 8 pm Tuesday, May 1, 2007 at the church.

Pallbearers are: William Buster Drake, Terry Drake, Joseph Murphy, Keith Mason, Roscoe Scott, and George Owens. Honorary bearers are: Evelyn Grundy, Bettina Warfield, Karen Douglas, Doris Grubs, Allena Beeler and Peggy Lacey.
