Monteze Mundy Snyder, age 95, died on August 14, 2017 at Westminster Rehabilitation service in Rock Hill, SC after a brief illness. She was the daughter of the late Gertrude (Hootie) Collins Mundy and Robert Frank Mundy.
A native of Greenwood, SC, she also enjoyed childhood years in Fairfax, SC. She graduated from Greenwood High School and worked as a laboratory technician while she attended Lander College. Following graduation from Lander, she worked as one of the first women hired as a professional chemist for TVA during Word War II. She and Dr. Howard Snyder married in February 1947 and settled in Summerville, SC. She was active supporter of Girl Scout Troup 191, the Girls Auxiliary and other groups at Summerville Baptist Church, and a member of the Eastern Star and Monteze Snyder was an ardent gardener and member of garden clubs in Summerville and in Rock Hill, SC when the family relocated there in 1965. She was also active in Medical Auxiliaries in both communities and particularly enjoyed working to provide scholarships in health professions to young women in Rock Hill through the organization there.
In 1986 the Snyders retired to Bonneau, SC. During her fifteen years there she was an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Moncks Corner, serving on the Session of the church and on the building committee for a new sanctuary. She also devoted herself to the care of and support of older members. For Charleston-Atlantic Presbytery she served on the search committee for a new presbytery executive. She was a member six years on the Board of Trustees of Presbyterian Communities of SC for six years, was Chair if the Admissions Committee, and served as Chair of the Board in her sixth year.
At age 80 she moved to a cottage at the Presbyterian Village in Summerville where she contributed to the development of the landscaping and gardens and enjoyed the company of old and new friends. Five years ago she relocated to Westminster Towers in Rock Hill, SC.
She is survived by a daughter, Dr. Monteze M. Snyder of Chapel Hill, NC and son Howard F. Snyder (Adele) of Rock Hill, S.C. Samuel Kramer and Hollie Taylor Novak count themselves among her other special children. Her grandchildren include Jennings Hudnall Snyder, Robert Welles Snyder, Boyce Pressly Snyder, Florence Adele Snyder, and Jesse Joseph Snyder-Ehrich. Surviving nephews and nieces include Clare Ramsey Jordan, Judith Mundy Burns, and Anita Ramsey Ward, Lurline Speer Dupree, Dorothy Snyder Randall, Joseph Charles Snyder, Alfred Franklin Snyder, Cherry Snyder Peurifoy, Alice Snyder Keadle, Nancy Coleman Wooten, Caren Coleman Larate, Julia Coleman Johnson, Clare Coleman Hesse, George William Snyder, Howard Gillison, and Marion Gillison. Her siblings Robert Frank Mundy, Juanita Ramsey Desmond, and Clarice Mundy Coghlan predeceased her.
The memorial services will be held on Friday, Sept. 8, 2017 at 11 am at First Presbyterian Church at 419 West Main Street in Moncks Corner, SC. Donation in her memory may be sent to the Presbyterian Communities of South Carolina at 2817 Ashland Rd., Columbia, SC 29210.
