Mr. James Harry Burns, 67, of 225 Pointer Drive, Summerville, SC died unexpectedly Sunday afternoon, June 30, 2019 at his home.
Mr. Burns retired as an assistant store manager from Publix Supermarkets in 2016, after 19 years of service. Previously, he was an assistant store manager for Wissinger’s grocery store in Altoona, PA. Jim was a member of Cokesbury UMC. He loved playing golf with his son and friends, watching his daughter play softball, and the NY Yankees.
James was born April 6, 1952, in Altoona, the son of the late David W. and Elinor (McCauley) Burns. Surviving are five children: Marlana E. and Bryce A. of Summerville, and Lee D., Jared H., and Joshua J. of Altoona; three grandchildren; a sister, Joyce A. Cassel and husband, Bob of New Bloomfield; and former wife and good friend Rebecca L. of Summerville. He was preceded in death by two brothers, David I. Burns and Richard W. Burns.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2pm on Wednesday July 10, 2019, at St. Andrews Parish UMC, 3225 Ashley River Road, Charleston, SC, with Carroll Cash officiating. . In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Andrews Parish UMC designated to the Jim Burns Memorial Fund to benefit Jim’s children.
