John J. Kersting "Mr. K"

John J. Kersting "Mr. K" of Summerville, husband of Laura Ann Woods Kersting, passed away on Wednesday evening, December 12, 2018, peacefully surrounded by his family.

The visitation will be held on Friday, December 14, 2018, from 3 until 8 o'clock in Parks Funeral Home. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held in St. Theresa the Little Flower Catholic Church, 11001 Dorchester Road on Saturday morning December 15, 2018 at 11 o'clock. Summerville SC. Interment will follow in Dorchester Memory Gardens, 11000 Dorchester Road, Summerville, SC.

Mr. K was born in St. Louis, MO, on October 30, 1931, a son of the late William G. Kersting and Mary Mueller Kersting. Mr. K originally moved to Summerville in 1970, where he was employed by Wetterau. In 1982, he purchased the Red and White Grocery Store on Cedar Street. In 1990, Mr. K opened his current Cedar Street Store known as Mr. K's Piggly Wiggly. Mr. K enjoyed his many loyal customers whom he considered his friends. He was also a member and/or supporter of many church, civic, and community organizations. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

Mr. K is survived by his loving wife of 64 years Laura; children John Kersting, Jr. (Barbara), Mary R. Daiber, Erin S. Clapp (John), Jim Kersting (Missy), Lois K. Davis (Jerry), and Leigh Ellen Kuziak; thirteen grandchildren, Ellen, Kate, Sara, Ryan, Alex, Abby, Sophie, Jack, Lucy, Shane, Johnathan, Laura Leigh, and Chloe` and nine great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son-in-law, Daniel C. Daiber. We would like to send a special thank you to Janet Konate who has been a loving caregiver to our dad. We would also like to thank Intrepid Hospice for their team of angels.
