Johnathan “JL” Lacy Simmons, Jr., 88, of Summerville, SC, widower of Kathryn Kelly Simmons, passed away Tuesday, November 7, 2017.
Funeral Services will be Sunday afternoon, November 12, 2017 at 3 o’clock at Summerville Baptist Church, where he was an active member. Burial will follow in Summerville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 o’clock until the time of service at the church. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials in JL’s name may be made to Summerville Baptist Church, 417 Central Ave., Summerville, SC 29483.
JL was born February 19, 1929 in St. George, SC, a son of the late Johnathan Lacy Simmons, Sr. and Laura Collier Simmons. He was a Retired Master Chief in the US Navy, serving during the Korean Conflict, before retiring from the Charleston Naval Base. JL was also co-owner of Simmons Barber Shop. He loved fishing, and enjoyed watching Clemson and Summerville athletics.
JL is survived by his daughter, Karen Yarborough (Stan); son, Michael Simmons (Belinda Laing); brother, Romie Simmons; grandchildren, Ryan and Kevin Simmons; great-grandchildren, Max and Riley; two grand kitties; and many nieces and nephews; special thanks his longtime friend and caregiver, Audrey Lisenby.
