Jo, as known to family and friends, was born November 16, 1934, in Gastonia NC, a daughter of the late Earle C. Workman and Kathryn Beatty Workman. She lived a vivacious and happy life filled with compassion and deep interest in others.  Jo made lifelong friends easily and maintained contact with all who touched her life.

Jo moved to Columbia, SC in the late 1960s to continue her career as office manager with New York Life Insurance Company spanning almost 40 years. Just after moving to Columbia, Jo met and married Tommy Copley who had two children. Jo loved and nurtured Michelle and Joe as if they were her own children and they always remained the apple of her eye.

She was a member of The Seven Oaks Presbyterian Church since joining in 1975. She was a woman of great faith, Honorary Life Member of the Presbyterian Women, and served on many ministries and committees. She was a long time volunteer at SOPC and at Lexington Medical Center. Jo always gave more to others than she ever expected in return; she was loved by all who knew her and will be profoundly missed.

Jo is survived by her son Joe L. Copley of Columbia; daughter Michelle J. Copley of Charleston; brother Robert L. Pierce III (Kelly) of Wilmington, NC; Susanne Pierce of Ocean Isle, NC; niece Julie Sandridge (Bill) of Raleigh, NC; nephew Craig Pierce (Laney) of Shallotte, NC; nephew Norman E. “Sandy” Bartholomew of Raleigh, NC; great niece Madison L.
