Mendel Everette Bates

Mendel Everette Bates, 87, of Summerville, SC passed away December 16, 2018.

Graveside Services will be at a later date in Riverview Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to be made in Mendel's name to Summerville Meals on Wheels, 111 Waring Street, Summerville, SC 29483.

Mendel was born September 21, 1931 in North Charleston, SC, a son of the late Thomas Samuel Bates and Grace A. Varner Bates. He retired from the Department of Defense in Civil Service as a Data Processor. He enjoyed playing the piano and organ and listening to classical music. Gardening, watching soccer, and doing puzzles of all types were also among his hobbies. Mendel loved spending time with his niece and her family, catching up with dear friends and family over the phone, and enjoying coffee with his friends at Flowertown (Alex's Restaurant). 

Mendel leaves behind his niece, Grace Bates Duckworth and her husband, Robert M. Duckworth of Richmond Hills, GA; and four great nephews. In addition to his parents, Thomas and Grace Bates, he is predeceased by his brother, Samuel W. Bates; and his sister, Shirley S. Bates.
