Queenie (Ahl) Engelberg

November 13, 1926 ~ November 10, 2017 (age 90) 90 Years Old

Queenie Ahl Engelberg, 90, of Ridgeville, widow of John D. Anderson, Sr. and Herman “Nookie” Engelberg passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday, November 10, 2017 at Magnolias of Summerville. 

Mrs. Engelberg was born on November 13, 1926 in Ridgeville, SC to Dewey W. Ahl and Alice Infinger Ahl. Queenie graduated from Ridgeville High School at the age of 15 and went to work for the United States Postal Service retiring as US Postmaster. 

Queenie was an avid gardener, and she enjoyed driving her tractor on her property well into her 80’s. Queenie loved the Lord and was a life-long member of Ridgeville Baptist Church where she was recognized at the church’s 100th anniversary as the eldest and longest serving member. She was also a published poet at the tender age of 80. Queenie loved Elvis Presley and saw him perform live at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas, and she was delighted when an Elvis impersonator showed up at her 90th birthday celebration. 

She is survived by her son, John D. (Karen) Anderson, Jr. of Ridgeville and grandchildren Jenny Anderson (Marc) Horne of Summerville, Julie Anderson (Don) Hesher of Ravenel, and Leo W. Hill, III of Ridgeville. She is also survived by four great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her daughter Belinda Anderson Hill of Ridgeville, her brothers Sydney Ahl of Summerville, Burnette Ahl of Ridgeville, Pete Ahl of St. George, and a sister Gertrude Woodall of Charleston.

 The family would like to thank Mearl Devine and other members of the Magnolias staff who so lovingly cared for Mrs. Engelberg the last months of her life. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to Magnolias of Summerville, 335 Midland Pkwy, Summerville, SC 29485 for the employee holiday fund. 

The family will receive friends at Parks Funeral Home on Monday, November 13th from 6 until 8pm. A homegoing service of worship will be held at Ridgeville Baptist Church on Tuesday, November 14th, 2017 at 3pm. Burial will follow at Bonne Rest Cemetery.
