Richard “Dick” Leland Gilbert, 75, of Summerville, husband of Ethel Gilbert, passed away on Saturday April 20, 2019.
A graveside funeral service with military honors will be held Friday, April 26, 2019 at 2:30 pm in Greenlawn Memorial Park, 7100 Garners Ferry Road, Columbia, SC. Memorials may be made to Faith Baptist Church Building Fund, 139 Faith Lane, Summerville, SC 29483, or a charity of one’s choice.
Richard was born on March 16, 1944 in Mexico, Maine, the son of the late Fred and Amy Dayon Gilbert.
Richard was married in Jacksonville, FL on July 1, 1967 to Ethel Campbell. He retired from the United States Navy and M.U.S.C. He loved watching New England Patriots and South Carolina Gamecocks football.
Richard is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Ethel Gilbert of Summerville; sons, Richard Leland Gilbert and Homer Ray both of Summerville; grandchildren, Joshua Gilbert of Summerville and Haley Rowe of Newington, GA; brother, Bruce Gilbert (Laurie) of Falmouth Maine; sister-in-laws, Gladys Gilbert and Luci Gilbert of Rumford, Maine, and Helen Gilbert of Columbia; and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brothers, Leo, Eugene, Norman, Wilbur, Harold, and Donald; sister, Cecile Gilbert; and sister-in-law, Maxine Gilbert.
