Rowland Jennings Singletary, Jr., of Goose Creek, SC, died peacefully Monday afternoon, April 9, 2018.
Funeral services will be Thursday afternoon, April 12, 2018 at 2 o'clock in Parks Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends from 1 o'clock until the time of service at Parks Funeral Home. Flowers will be accepted.
Jennings was born July 25, 1940 in Delco, Columbus County, North Carolina, son of Rowland Jennings Singletary, Sr. and Ora Winifred Singletary. He served in the US Navy as a Master Chief Radioman for more than 21 years. He and his loving wife, Patricia Marshall Singletary, married in Dillon, South Carolina on May 19, 1962.
He is survived by his children Barry Wade Singletary (Cheryl) of Goose Greek, SC and Kevin Dean Singletary (Maurie) of Chapin, SC; sister, Doris Vines (Fred) of Elizabethtown, NC; grandchildren, Heather Soper (Tyler), Kevin Singletary, Jr., Hayli Schauman, Rachel Singletary, Hayden Singletary, and Wade Singletary; great grandchildren, Preston Soper and Ella Soper; and numerous loving nieces and nephews.
Jennings or Rowland or "Pop Pop" meant a great deal to many people. He loved and cared for his family throughout his life showing both love and toughness as needed. He served his country during the Vietnam War, receiving many service awards. He left the military to start work with Alumax at the Mt. Holly plant in Goose Creek, where he developed lasting relationships with his friends and colleagues. He was a man of the highest integrity, greatest accountability, and strongest character. He will be truly missed.
