Royce Devoe Rogers, 80, passed away Friday, May 10, 2019 from Lung Cancer. He resided in Summerville, SC with his wife.
Royce was born May 23, 1938, to Marvin and Rannie Mae (Wallace) Rogers in Cedartown, Georgia, the youngest of four children. Royce served in the U.S. Air Force for 28 years as a Flight Engineer. He met his beautiful bride, best friend and wife of 62 years, Mary LulaBelle Dotson, in Sedalia, Missouri, when he offered to lace her skates, and within 6 months, they were married in Cedartown, Georgia.
After retiring from the Air Force in 1980, Royce began his second career working at the Bosch Plant in Charleston, South Carolina. He retired from Bosch as well. Apart from working, Royce enjoyed spending time with his family and the birds. He loved to spoil his wife whenever he had a chance. He also spent time volunteering at the Charleston Air Force Base Protestant Church.
Royce is survived by his loving wife, Mary; daughters, Teresa Rogers, Melany (Jim) Rogers-Mader, and Roycelin (Joel) Rogers-DeLeon; grandsons, Christopher (Beth) Coon, Ryan Coon, Royce Devoe (Kristi) Coon, Joel S. DeLeon, Savion DeLeon and Estevan DeLeon; great-grandchildren, Savanna Coon, Audrey Coon, Taylor Coon, and Royce Devoe Coon, Jr.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Royce was preceded in death by his parents, older sister; Hilda Gipson, and older brothers; Edward, Jimmie, and Gordon Lee.
Graveside funeral services will be held on Friday, May 17, 2019 at Beaufort National Cemetery, Beaufort, SC at 12 Noon with Chaplain Brown officiating. The family will greet friends Thursday evening from 5-7 pm at Parks Funeral Home.
