William James Burnell, Sr., 99 ½, of Summerville, widow of Mary Elizabeth Taylor Burnell, of Summerville, SC, passed away Friday, September 7, 2018.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 11, 2018 at 2:30 pm in Boone Hill United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the churchyard. Visitation will be held Tuesday at the church one hour prior to the service. Flowers will be accepted.
William was born March 2, 1919 in Portsmouth, VA, a son of Malcolm Calvin Burnell and Margaret Vista Stirling Burnell. He was a WWII U.S. Coast Guard veteran. He was a retired machinist for the Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth, VA. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 132 in Portsmouth. He enjoyed birdwatching, early American History, and loved everything Christmas. He was a member of Boone Hill UMC.
Survivors include his son, Jimmie S. Taylor (Sonyia) of Summerville; his sister, Peggy Limbaugh of West Memphis, AR; daughter-in-law, Vicky Burnell of Summerville; 6 grandchildren, Kimberly Shenenberger (Dr. Donald) of Chesapeake, VA, Sharon Perry (Garry), James F. Taylor (Heather), Jennifer Burnell, Amie Burnell, Travis Burnell (Cali), all of Summerville; and 9 great grandchildren, Alex Shenenberger, Caroline Shenenberger, Morgan Perry, Taylor Perry, Hailey Taylor, Ainsley Taylor, Trenton Burnell, Channing Burnell and Faith Burnell. William was predeceased by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Taylor Burnell, his son, William J. Burnell, Jr and his parents, Malcolm and Margaret Burnell.
