Amy Locklair Obituary

Amy P. Locklair, 95, of Summerville, South Carolina, widow of John Lynwood Locklair, Sr., died December 23, 2024.

Born September 5, 1929, in Bainbridge, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Paul Sr. and Johnnie Barber Peacock. She moved to SC from GA in 1940 to live in North Charleston graduating from Chicora High School as the Salutatorian.

She was the Office Manager for the Summerville Law Firm of Walker, Walker and Jenkins which eventually became Walker, Jones, Smith, Bailey and Carroll. She retired from the State of South Carolina after serving 12 years as the Assistant to the Honorable John Hamilton Smith.

Amy was active in the Flowertown Business and Professional Women’s Organization and rose through the ranks as President of the local chapter and later becoming the State President of the organization. Governor Carroll Campbell awarded her the coveted Order of the Palmetto in May 1989.

She joined Bethany United Methodist Church in 1948 and has remained a faithful member attending worship services and as an active member of the Searchers Sunday School Class and the Herbert McAlhaney Circle.

She and her beloved husband, Lynnie, spent many years at their vacation home on Edisto Island where they enjoyed fishing, crabbing and sharing their love of the low country’s way of life with family and friends.

Amy is preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Lynwood Locklair, as well as her siblings, Elizabeth Owens and Paul Peacock Jr. and her Grandson, WesLee Bradford Locklair.

She is survived by her children, John (Jack) L. Locklair Jr (Tricia), Michael L. Locklair, Melonea Locklair Marek(Mike) and Paul Shannon Locklair(Rosemarie);her grandchildren , Dr. Matthew R. Locklair(Becky), US Army Major (Christopher) Brian Nettles(Johanna), Jeremy Price(Allie), Allen Marek(Stephanie), Nicholas Marek and her great grandchildren, Bryce, Sydni and Briggs Locklair ;Wallace, Juniper, Stafford and Tabitha Locklair. Christoper Magyari, Tyler Coleman, Coralyn and Everett Nettles, Preston and Liam Price, Seth and Abel Marek and her sisters Joann P. Johnson and Rebecca P. Campbell, and many loving nieces and nephews including special nephew, Frankie Johnson.

The family is grateful for the love and support from the Searchers Sunday School class and Reverend Ritter and Pastor Barnes. They also want to thank Agape Hospice for the care their mother received. The family will receive visitors on Saturday, 12/28/24 between 3-4 pm at Bethany United Methodist Church Spell Chapel located at 118 West Third South Street, Summerville, SC 29483. The Memorial Service will follow at 4:00 PM. Burial will be private.
