Carol Jean Hammer Dailey, 88, of Summerville, SC, passed away peacefully on September 30, 2025. She was born June 7, 1937, in Santa Clara, California, to the late Glen Forest Hammer and Opal Fern Erickson Hammer.
On July 3, 1964, she married the love of her life, John Patrick Dailey. As a devoted military wife, Carol supported her husband and family with grace and resilience as they moved across the country and lived in Greece during John’s Air Force career, finally settling in Summerville, SC.
In her younger days, she was a strong, adventurous woman- even competing as a demolition derby driver. Her strength and determination carried her through multiple battles with cancer and other health challenges. Carol retired from Wal-Mart in 2005 and spent her remaining years surrounded by loved ones. She was a faithful member of the 2nd Ward Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Carol was a fierce Canasta player who also loved Bingo and other card games. Her grandchildren fondly remember her unconditional love, her Christmas cookies, and her famous butter noodles. Being a grandmother and great-grandmother was one of her greatest joys.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Patrick Dailey; children, Robert Dean and John Glenn Dailey, and Walter R. and Daniel J. Castleberry; siblings, Robert, Ellen, and Forest “Jerry” Hammer, and Dianna L. Taylor.
Carol is survived by her son, Matthew Ray (Melissa) of Dauphin Island, AL; daughter, Valarie Lynne of Summerville, SC; daughter-in-law, Julie Todd (John) of Summerville, SC; brothers, Donald Hammer (Jeanne) of Antioch, CA, and Walter “Jim” Hammer (Melissa) of Brentwood, CA; grandchildren, Rhyen (Crystal), Michael (Sara), Madilyn (Ryan), Morgan (Mason), John Davis, Connor, and Grayson; and great-grandchildren Colin, Lucas, Anna, Brycen, and Jackson.
Her life was a testament to kindness, resilience, and love. She leaves behind a legacy of faith, family, and many cherished memories.
