Catherine A. Walker, also known as Cathy, passed away on December 2, 2023, at the age of 81 in Summerville, S.C. She was born on September 23, 1942, in Summerville, S.C. to her parents Charles and Zelma Winningham. Cathy was a remarkable mother, friend and sister who dedicated her life to her children and cherished every moment spent with them.
Cathy had a vivacious personality that brightened the lives of those around her. She possessed a giving nature and always lent a helping hand to those in need. Her unwavering faith in Jesus was the cornerstone of her life. She walked with Him and talked with Him every day, finding strength and courage in her unshakeable belief. Throughout life’s trials and tribulations, Cathy’s faith remained steadfast.
A woman of great resilience, Cathy faced challenges with confidence, relying on her ever- present Lord. Now, she has found eternal peace in the loving embrace of God. As Revelations 21:4 tells us, “He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” Cathy has entered the promise land, where she is reunited with her former husband Ronnie, her parents Charles and Zelma, her nephews Shawn and Neil, and her brothers Pete and George. She is survived by her beautiful sister Elaine Summers and her brother-in-law Phillip Summers.
Cathy will be deeply missed by her beloved daughters Tina Goodale MacLean and Marcy Goodale Small, her son-in-law John Maclean and her cherished grandson Jayden MacLean. She was a loving mother and a proud grandmother who always showered her family with support and love.
In her professional life, Cathy worked as an Accountant at the Medical University of South Carolina for 35 years. She adored her job and her coworkers, viewing her work not as a mere obligation but as a source of joy. Cathy’s dedication and passion for her work were evident to all who knew her.
Outside of work, Cathy had a variety of interests and hobbies. She was an excellent cook, known for her delicious meals. Her home was always impeccably kept, and she had a green thumb when it came to gardening. Cathy’s talent for creating beautiful flower arrangements was admired by many.
A celebration of Cathy’s life will be held on January 13 at 11am at Parks Funeral Home in Summerville, S.C. Friends and family will gather to honor her memory and share stories of her remarkable life.
Cathy’s legacy will live on through the love she shared, the faith she held dear, and the impact she made on the lives of those around her. May she rest in eternal peace, knowing that her loved ones will see her again one day.
