Claire Sevigny LaFond of Summerville, SC passed away on November 14th surrounded by her devoted family.
Claire was a brutally honest woman of great substance and pluck with the grit and inner strength to persevere after the death of her parents at the age of 14 and the death of her husband of 30 years, Roland, at the young age of 48. She raised four children, owned her own gift shop and marshalled her dear friends to create the Summerville Cotillion in the early 80’s, which still lives on today.
She went to college at the age of 16 before deciding she wanted to marry Roland. While making their way south to their final destination in Summerville, they spent some time in DC where, among other things, she translated for the Pentagon and took part in the redesigning of Lafayette Park.
The matriarch is survived by her children Jeff (Christine), Jonny (Temple), Benjy (Toni) and Catherine (Cindy), grandchildren Abbie (Jake), Hannah Claire ("Cissy"), Jeff Jr. ("Sonny"), Roland ("Bubba"), Sarah Temple ("Sampie"), Suzanne Sevigny ("Susu"), Alyssa, Claire ("Cali") and Catherine ("Ellie"), her sister Jeanne, her sister-in-law Anna, many nieces and nephews and so many dear friends.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Lowcountry Autism Foundation (lafinc.org). Private interment with celebration of life to follow from 1-5 p.m. on November 23 at Jonny & Temple's home.
