Clarence "Sam" Sponaugle Obituary

On January 22, 2023, Clarence “Sam” Sponaugle, 91, died peacefully at Trident Medical Center in Charleston.

Visitation will be held at 1pm at the Heritage Holiness Church, 3836 Ladson Road, Ladson, S.C. on Saturday January 28th, 2023, followed by the Funeral Service at 2pm. Please post your condolences and memories at www.parksfuneralhome.com on the Tribute Wall.

Sam was born in Bend Bush, West Virginia. In 1952, he joined the Air Force and served until 1972. He then worked at Westvaco for several years. Then for 20 more years, he worked on testing diesel fuel pumps at Bosch Charleston plant in S.C. Sam was a very generous man and would literally give you the shirt off of his back. He had a wonderful and quirky sense of humor which was passed down to all of his sons. He traveled to many places during his military career: Japan, Texas, Illinois, Thule Greenland, and settled in Summerville, S.C. Despite his travels, he was basically a homebody, although he loved traveling to Sponaugle family reunions in West Virginia and Ohio. He became a beloved member of the Heritage Holiness Church and was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ. He will be greatly missed.

Sam leaves behind his beloved wife of 68 years, Mari Sponaugle of Summerville, S.C.; sons, Danny Sponaugle (Allison) of Summerville, S.C., Larry Sponaugle (Sible) of Mooresville, N.C., Forrest Sike Sponaugle (Wendy) of Summerville, S.C., Steve Sponaugle (Lesha) of Goose Creek, S.C.; along with 9 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by his brother, Richard.
