Cynthia Anderson Obituary

Cynthia “Cindy” Williams Anderson went home to be with her Lord and Savior on March 26, 2026.

Cindy was born on September 24, 1955 in Anchorage, Alaska.  She was the youngest daughter of James P. Williams, Sr. and Imogene Swicegood Williams.  The Williams family moved back to her mother’s beloved native Summerville in 1962 where Cindy attended Summerville High School Class of 1973.  At Summerville High School, Cindy was on the track team where she lettered in the shot put.  She was always active and athletic, an avid softball player well into her 50s.

Cindy obtained her Associate’s Degree in Nursing from Baptist College now Charleston Southern University in 1982 and her Bachelor’s of Nursing and her Master’s in Nursing in a joint degree program from Medical University College of Nursing in 1988.  Cindy completed the Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Program in 1994 at the University of South Carolina.

Cindy’s nursing career began in 1978 at Trident Regional Medical Center as an LPN doing medical surgical nursing and later she worked as an RN in Trident’s intensive care unit.  After working for Trident Regional Medical Center for 17 years, she worked at Roper Hospital as a neuroscience Clinical Specialist until she obtained her Nurse Practitioner degree.  In 1995, she joined Charleston Neurosurgical Associates and worked for the practice as an ACNP for twenty years.  She completed her nursing career with Charleston Neurology until her retirement in 2018.

Cindy’s life’s passion was her work as a nurse and as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner where for forty years she cared for thousands of patients.  Her patients and their families appreciated Cindy’s matter-of-fact style of patient education and her compassionate and nurturing delivery of health care.  Cindy also had a passion for teaching the neurosciences to colleagues and fellow nurses.    Cindy believed that sharing her knowledge and education with the next generation of health care professionals was her professional obligation and responsibility to give back to her profession. Even in retirement, Cindy continued to give lectures for other Nurse Practitioners, while also enjoying her grandchildren, family and friends, and gardening.  Cindy will be greatly missed by her family, her friends, her patients and her professional colleagues.

Cindy is survived by her two daughters, Jenny Anderson (Marc) Horne of Summerville, and Julie Anderson (Don) Hesher of Ravenel; three grandchildren Nicholas Horne, Margaret “Maggie” Horne, and Abigail “Abby” Harris Hesher.  She is also survived by her beloved sister Kathleen Williams Windham of Summerville and many cousins and nieces and nephews.  Cindy is also survived by her friend and professional mentor, Stephen E. Rawe, MD, Ph.D., of Charleston.  In addition to her parents, Cindy was predeceased by her twin brother, John Roger Williams, and her oldest brother, James P. Williams, Jr.

A funeral service will be held in Parks Funeral Home Chapel in Summerville on Wednesday, April 1, 2026 at 11 am. Burial will follow in Summerville Cemetery. The family will receive friends, former patients, and colleagues on Tuesday, March 31, from 5 to 7 pm.
