Cynthia Riley Obituary

Cynthia Windham Riley, 86, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, surrounded by family. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Walter K. Windham, Sr., of Fairfax, SC. She was a wife, mother, lover of the Lord, businesswoman, and community leader.

She was married to the late John W. Riley, Jr., for 64 years. They had 3 children, Wil Riley (Ann), Lori Pope (Joe), and Mike Riley (Kristina). She was predeceased by her son-in-law, Larry E. Pope, Sr. They had 6 grandchildren, Larry Pope, Jr. (Jessica), Matt Pope (Sara), Benjamin Pope (Ashley), Logan Riley Morgan (Jared), Walker Riley (Brooke), Meg Riley, and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was a principal in Riley Lumber, Inc. She served as the Corporate Secretary and was an Administrator in the day-to-day business of the organization. This family business served the Summerville community in the 1980’s and 1990’s.

Cynthia was an active member of Bethany United Methodist Church. She assisted the Choir Director with the Children’s Choirs. She was a Sunday School Teacher, a member of the Brooks-Swicegood Circle, and served as Chair of the Bereavement Committee for many years. She also enjoyed working with the Mission Teams and went on several domestic Mission Trips.

In addition to her service at Bethany, she delivered meals for Meals on Wheels of Summerville and was on the Board of Directors for the YWCO of Summerville when they hosted the first Azalea Festival, which later became the Flowertown Festival. She also co-chaired the YWCO’s Annual Prayer Breakfast for more than 10 years.

She is also survived by 2 sisters, Mary Putnam and Ann Windham, and 3 Brothers, Elbert Windham, Bill Windham, and WK Windham, sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at Bethany United Methodist Church, Summerville, on Sunday, February 8, 2026, at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Bethany United Methodist Church, 118 W Third S Street, Summerville, SC 29483.
