Darlene Clarke Obituary

Darlene (Clarke) Zolides passed away peacefully on June 16, 2025, in Summerville, South Carolina, with her devoted husband, Bill Zolides, by her side.

She leaves behind her beloved son, Jacob Clarke, her mother, Diedra Barr, and her siblings: Earl Mathews, Lorrie Daniels, Rhonda Button, Tony Mathews, Shawn (Fortin) Mathews, and Wayne Alacoski. Darlene is also survived by a large extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins, all of whom played meaningful roles in her life and helped shape the person she became.

Born Darlene Alacoski in Cranston, Rhode Island, on August 17, 1972, she spent much of her life in and around Whitinsville, Massachusetts, with periods of residence in Rhode Island, Texas, and Florida. A 1990 graduate of Blackstone Valley Technical Vocational High School, she specialized in Drafting and was an active student-athlete, participating in soccer and softball.

The friendships she made during those years remained strong throughout her life. In the years following high school, Darlene married Brian Clarke and welcomed her only child, Jacob — the love of her life. Her devotion to Jacob was unwavering and deeply felt. Being his mother was her proudest and most cherished identity. She was a nurturing, attentive, and loving presence, and her bond with her son endured and flourished through all seasons of life.

A true daughter of Central Massachusetts, Darlene was a passionate supporter of Boston sports. Whether cheering for the Red Sox, Patriots, Bruins, or Celtics, sports were a shared joy within her family. One of her most treasured memories was attending Game 2 of the 2004 World Series with her brother Tony — a moment she held dear. Darlene also loved the outdoors and simple pleasures: playing horseshoes, gardening, cooking, and especially attending live concerts. Later in life, she found a new and fulfilling chapter with her husband, Bill Zolides. Together, they embraced an adventurous spirit, enjoying music, travel, motorcycle rides, good food and drink, and lively gatherings with friends and family. Their home in Summerville, South Carolina, became a warm and welcoming place filled with laughter, love, and hospitality.

Darlene will be remembered for her resilience, vibrant personality, and most of all, her unwavering love for those closest to her — especially her husband Bill and son Jacob. Her legacy lives on in the connections she made, the joy she brought to others, and the enduring love she leaves behind.
