David Gordon Boutwell

David Boutwell, 84, of Summerville, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on October 24, 2025. Born on November 7, 1940, in Lowville, New York, David lived a life marked by resilience, curiosity, and an unwavering commitment to family, faith, and community.

Raised in the heart of upstate New York, David’s early years shaped his strong work ethic and love for sports, which later blossomed into a passion for coaching youth teams. His dedication to mentoring young athletes left a lasting impact, fostering teamwork and perseverance in countless lives. David’s faith was a cornerstone of his life, and he served with devotion through mission work at Summerville Baptist Church in South Carolina, where he touched hearts with his generosity and compassion.

David was a man of simple joys, often seen in his signature polo shirts and khakis, a symbol of his approachable and steadfast nature. His curiosity about the world and his ability to connect with others made him a beloved figure to all who knew him.

He is survived by his loving wife, Susan Boutwell; his children, Everett Boutwell (Lori) and their children Tessa and Griffin, Ryan Boutwell (Hillary) and their children Julianna, Fitzgerald, and Naomi, and stepdaughter Lauren Parmenter (Patrick) and their children Madeline, Charlotte, and James. David was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon and Erma Boutwell, his brothers Harry Boutwell and Lansing Boutwell, and his sister Virginia Hoage.

David’s legacy lives on in the love he shared, the lives he shaped, and the faith he embodied. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, October 29, 2025 at 12 o’clock noon at Summerville Baptist Church, 417 Central Ave, Summerville, SC 29483. The family will receive friends for a visitation an hour before the service. Burial will follow at Summerville Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Summerville Baptist Church’s mission programs, a cause close to David’s heart.
