David Warren Corless

David Warren Corless, age 80, of Summerville, SC went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on August 9,2024.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Celebration of Life Service at 11:00 AM, Saturday, August 17, 2024, at Old Fort Baptist Church, 10505 Dorchester Rd., Summerville, SC 29485. Dave was born in Charleston, South Carolina, on May 2, 1944 to the late Birdsell and Helen Corless. He was a very strong, humble, and encouraging man that loved the Lord and his family. After an exciting and successful high school basketball experience, at North Charleston High School (1958-1962), Dave earned a scholarship to LaGrange College in LaGrange, Georgia where he played four years of college basketball. After graduating from LaGrange College, Dave went on to pursue his Master's degree at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he served as a graduate assistant under the legendary Dean Smith. Dave enjoyed a teaching career for over 30 years, most recently at Charleston Southern University in North Charleston, SC.

In March of 1973 Dave married Kathy Morrison of Miami, FL and together they created a loving family which included three children, John (Michelle) Corless, Kelley (Erik) Shamblin, Kristy (Mike) Blanco. Holding an extra special place in his heart were his grandchildren Jacob Shamblin, Gracey Shamblin Macurda (Will), Luke Shamblin, Ben Shamblin, Kristofer Blanco, Mikayla Blanco, Graham Corless, & Johnathan Corless. The "Grands 8", who all survive him. In addition to them, he is survived by his brother, James Lee Corless of Daytona Beach, FL. Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Birdsell and Helen Corless; his brothers, Wayne Corless and Hugh Corless and his sisters, Sandra Cusack and Sylvia Seymour.

While Dave’s earthly accomplishments are many, his most honorable and blessed moments come from his personal relationship with Jesus Christ. He is experiencing eternal joy in his Heavenly home because he finished his race well here on earth.
