David Jones Obituary

Command Sergeant Major David Earl Jones, U.S. Army (Ret.)
7/21/1943 – 2/1/2025

With sorrow and respect, we announce the passing of Command Sergeant Major David Earl Jones, a dedicated leader and patriot who served his country with unwavering courage and honor. He passed away on February 1st 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

A proud member of the U.S. Army’s Airborne and Special Forces community, CSM Jones embodied the highest standards of service, leadership, and sacrifice. His distinguished military career spanned 30 years, serving in a variety of tactical and leadership roles. ranging from frontline activities in Vietnam as an Airborne Special Forces soldier for several tours to leading as the senior enlisted member (CSM) of NATO Forces in Turkey as well as twice for the Joint Communication Support Element at MacDill Airforce Base.  During his enlistment CSM Jones earned some of the nation’s highest commendations, including the Purple Heart, Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal, Bronze Star Medal, and Bronze Star Medal with Valor. His bravery and leadership on and off the battlefield were a testament to his steadfast commitment to protecting his country and his brothers-in-arms.

David was an extraordinary father, brother, leader, and friend. He guided with integrity, inspired with his wisdom, and cared deeply for those he loved.  While his sense of humor was infectious and filled the room wherever he landed, it was his loving personality (especially when chocolate chip cookies or Coors beer were around) that made him a delight to be around.

David leaves behind a legacy of service, courage, and love. He is preceded by parents Leston Jones and Marba Buchanan, wife Barbara Lynn Jones.  He is survived by sons Michael (Anita), Bryan (Amy), and David, sister Dianne Dascanio, three grandchildren Haley, Sullivan and Brody, loving friend Ginny Polege, as well as a family of fellow soldiers and friends who were honored to stand beside him.

The family will have a private funeral service at Beaufort National Cemetery on February 14th.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider making a donation to the Joint Communications Support Element Veterans Asso—jcseva.com, supporting the troops that serve our country.

The family would like to thank the caring and loving staff at the Clairborne Senior Living for their care and dedication.
