Deanna Lynn McGurgan

It is with great sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Deanna Lynn McGurgan, aka Miss Dee. Born in Moundsville, West Virginia, she was always surrounded by the company of strong, independent women. Running barefoot through the hills, she followed her own path from a young age.

Whether she was traveling on an adventure, carving her way in the freight forwarding industry, or raising her three girls, Deanna made it her mission to do things “her own way” with passion and determination. She treated everyone with kindness and respect, led with empathy, had a love for “a little bit of sparkle” and loved a glass of wine with 2 ice cubes.

She is survived by her three daughters, Melissa, Meaghan, Heather and her 16 grandkittens.

A graveside service will take place on May 18th, 2025 at 11am EDT for immediate and chosen family only. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a donation are invited to contribute to Pet Helpers at https://pethelpers.org/memorial-donation/ in honor of her love for animals, or to your local PBS station—both causes close to her heart.

Deanna’s favorite hobby was fossil and rock collecting. Fossils are tangible links to the past and witnesses to the passage of time. Traces of our ancestry lie within the bones under the ground we walk upon. We hope that with her passing, she can return to nature and become the thing that she loved most—a little bit of earth’s history.
