Dorothy Arlene Burns Pohlman, 85, of Summerville, SC, loving wife of Frank A. Pohlman, passed away Sunday, September 24, 2023 at the Village of Summerville.
Dorothy was born September 12, 1938 in Carlinville, IL, the daughter of the late Wilbur Wayne Burns and Dorothy Monica Knight Burns. Dorothy and Frank married in 1958 at St. Mary’s in Alton, IL, and the two just celebrated 65 years of marriage before her passing. She loved painting, sewing, gardening, traveling, fishing and was known for her delicious baked goods. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.
Dorothy and Frank wintered for 20 years in Gulf Shores, AL. Dorothy made a life of giving to others, and made a career as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She worked for the Alton Memorial Hospital ER and retired while working for Dr. Edward Paone.
Dorothy was a loving mother and grandmother and was always devoted to those who loved her and was happiest spending time with family. In addition to her husband, Frank A. Pohlman of Summerville, SC, Dorothy leaves behind her son, Frank A. Pohlman, Jr. (Kelly) of Dousman, WI; daughters, Peggy A. Tinnin (Terry) of Summerville, SC, Janet M. Foster of Dallas, TX, Karen Beckett (Scott) of Punta Gorda, FL, and Judy Joehl (Mike) of Canton, GA; brother, John Burns (Gabriela) of Boerne, TX; brother-in-law, Thomas Pohlman (Pennie) of Brussels, IL; grandchildren, Nancy Johnson (Ryan), Laura Kollman (Michael), Jenna Stewart (Jimmy), Samuel Foster, Lexi Foster, Emily Graser (Ben), Jesse Abel (Nicki), Benjamin Pohlman (Ellie), Jacob Pohlman, James Joehl, Mary Katherine Joehl, Trisha Sieckmann (Mike), and Caitlyn Beckett; great-grandchildren, Ryley, Grayson, Camryn, Lainey, Charlotte, John, Braiden, Brooks, Rowan, MacLaine, Binx, Forrest and Parker; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, Dorothy and Wayne Burns; sisters, Nancy Savitch (Ronald) and Mary Jo Thurston (John); grandson, Terry Tinnin Jr.
