Dreyfus Odell Browder, 82, husband of Patricia Britt Browder, of Summerville, passed away on Monday, May 20, 2024.
The relatives and friends of Dreyfus Browder are invited to attend his Funeral Service at 11:00 AM, Friday, May 24, 2024, at Parks Funeral Home Chapel, 130 W. 1st North Street, Summerville, SC 29483. Burial will follow in Summerville Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, Thursday evening at the funeral home. Flowers may be sent to Parks Funeral Home.
Dreyfus was born in Sumter, South Carolina on December 8, 1941. He was the son of Samuel and Mary Ann. As a young man, he joined the United States Marine Corp and served in Vietnam. In 1963 he married his wife Patricia, and became an ironworker, traveling the country building many iconic structures. He worked as an ironworker for sixty years. For many years he also worked as a baseball and softball umpire. Dreyfus was a skilled umpire and always in demand. He donated many hours of his time to the American Red Cross, donating gallons of blood and teaching CPR and first aid for years. He loved to dance, and was an expert shag dancer.
Dreyfus was married to his wife Patricia for sixty years. They had four children, twelve grandchildren, and seventeen great-grandchildren. His family was always the center of his life.
He is survived by his wife Patricia Browder; sons, Dreyfus Browder Jr. (Lori), Daryl Browder, and Patrick Browder and his daughter, Denise Hucks (Steve). Dreyfus was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Mary Ann; his brother, Michael Browder, as well as two sisters, Nancy Cowart and Barbara Ann Brigman.
