Frank Olin Pusey, 91, of Summerville, SC passed away on Sunday July 7, 2024.

Mr. Pusey was born in Georgetown, SC on August 2, 1932. He was the son of Edward Carlos and Bertha Gibson Pusey.  He was a 1950 graduate of Winyah High School, Georgetown, SC, where he was an outstanding athlete in football, baseball, and basketball. Mr. Pusey, Class of 1954, graduated from Wofford College in Spartanburg, SC. He was a starting pitcher for the Terriers, and an Army ROTC scholarship recipient.

Mr. Pusey proudly served in the United States Air Force for 27-years. During his distinguished career, he piloted various aircrafts that included Air Force One flying Presidents Lyndon Johnson, Gerald Ford, Richard Nixon, and Ronald Reagan. Mr. Pusey often stated that the highlight of his career was piloting the Apollo 11 astronauts, Buzz Aldrin, Neil Armstrong, and Michael Collins, through the last half of their Goodwill Tour following their successful moon landing mission. He retired after his last assignment as Deputy Wing Commander of the 89th Presidential Wing, Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland.

After retiring from the USAF as a full Colonel, Mr. Pusey entered the commercial real estate field, where he successfully negotiated major contracts as lead for local real estate firms. After a fulfilling career in the military and commercial sectors, he spent time relaxing and enjoying his favorite hobbies: fishing, hunting, playing golf, and gardening.  He was also an avid sports fan, following his favorite football and baseball teams. Other activities he enjoyed were crossword puzzles and sudoku. He was a long-time member of St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Summerville, SC where he served on several committees.

He and his wife, Sarah, cherished time with friends and travelling.  His grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought him the most joy. He loved sharing his unique life experiences through the remarkable stories he told. Mr. Pusey lived a full, rich life based on his many achievements, experiences, and interactions with the people that had the honor of knowing him.

Mr. Pusey is survived by his devoted wife of sixty-eight years, Sarah Doyle Pusey of Summerville, SC; four children, Ruth P. Passarello (and husband, Michael Passarello) of Summerville, SC; Frank O. Pusey, Jr, M.D. (and wife Michelle Pusey) of Blythewood, SC; Elizabeth P. Ashenfelter (and husband, Michael Ashenfelter) of Summerville, SC and Edward J. Pusey (and wife, Tanya Pusey) of Anderson, SC; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

One of Mr. Pusey’s favorite verses was the following:

John 8:12

Again, Jesus spoke to them saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness but will have the light of life.”
