George J. Mitchum, Jr., 76, of Summerville, SC gained his angel wings Thursday, April 23, 2026.
Visitation will be Monday evening, April 27, 2026 from 6 o'clock until 8 o'clock at Parks Funeral Home. Flowers are accepted.
George was born April 21, 1950 in Charleston, SC, son of the late George and Betty Mitchum. He worked as a boilmaker and pipefitter at the Naval Shipyard with 30 years in Civil Service. He loved to hunt and fish, and was well known for his high school football career led by the legendary Coach McKissick. He found great joy in attending his grandchildren’s sports and activities, watching Judge Judy, and following Summerville High School football.
George leaves behind his son, Pete Mitchum of Gulf Shores, AL; daughters, Kim Sprinkle of Summerville, SC, Heather Kelley of New Brockton, AL, and Katie Goodson (Russ) of Gulf Breeze, FL; sisters, Janice Tripp and Marty McConnell (Lewis), both of Summerville, SC; grandchildren, Rylee Hughes (Connor) of Summerville, SC, Michael Kelley (Hannah) of Hartford, AL, Daniel Moore of Goose Creek, SC, Tucker Goodson and Annalise Goodson both of Gulf Breeze, FL, Emma Sprinkle of Summerville, SC, Britney Mitchum, Emilee Mitchum, and Jacob Mitchum; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by a sister, Beverly Leggette and his brother, Wayne Mitchum.
George, Dad, Papa, Grandpa will deeply missed by all that knew and loved him.
