Gertrude Catherine Litzinger Davenport

Gertrude Catherine Litzinger Davenport, 90, of Summerville passed away peacefully on Monday, March 27, 2023.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, April 13, 2023 at 12 o’clock noon at Saint John the Beloved Catholic Church, 28 Sumter Ave, Summerville, SC 29483. A Rosary Service will start at 11:30am. The family will receive friends for a visitation at 11 o’clock. Inurnment will follow at Dorchester Memory Gardens, 11000 Dorchester Rd, Summerville, SC 29485. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in honor of Gertrude to Saint John the Beloved Catholic Church Bereavement Committee, 28 Sumter Ave, Summerville, SC 29483 or Transitions Hospice Care, 9225 University Blvd Suite E1D, North Charleston, SC 29406.

Gertrude was born on August 8, 1932 and is the daughter of the late Peter John Litzinger and Regina Marie Hepfner Litzinger. During her lifetime she met her husband, a retired Master Sargent USAF, James R. Davenport. She would then go on and work for the Federal Civil Service where she would end up retiring from. Gertrude and her husband Jim, were both assigned to multiple bases in the U.S. and abroad. She has also been a long-time member of Saint John the Beloved Catholic Church. In her free time, she enjoyed crocheting, cross-stitch, puzzles, and ceramics.

Gertrude is survived by her daughters, Regina D. Legette of St. George, SC, Jeanine K. Edwards (Scott) of Summerville, SC; along with 8 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband, retired Master Sargent USAF, James R. Davenport; parents, Peter and Regina Litzinger; sons, Gregory E. Davenport (Leta), James R. Davenport III (Debra); and son in law, Howard E. Legette.
