Hazel Chance Ward

Hazel Chance Ward, 92, of Georgetown, SC, widow of the late Joseph Ward, passed away Friday morning, January 23, 2026.

Funeral Services will be Wednesday afternoon, January 28, 2026 at 2 o’clock at Lakewood Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 1 o’clock until the time of service at the church. Burial will follow in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens, 1640 Pennyroyal Road, Georgetown, SC 29440. Flowers are accepted or memorials in Hazel’s name may be made to Lakewood Baptist Church, 171 Lakewood Avenue, Georgetown, SC 29440, where she was a Charter Member. Hazel was an amazing cook and loved cross-stitching. She also found much peace in reading her Bible and enjoyed gardening. 

Hazel was born August 31, 1933 in Bladen County, NC. She made a career as a food service worker at Kensington Elementary and always had a smile on her face.

She leaves behind her grandsons, Elliott Newton (Kate) of Georgetown, SC and Casey Newton (Hannah) of Charleston, SC; granddaughters, Katelyn Cain of North Charleston, SC and Kristyn Cain of Georgetown, SC; great-granddaughters, Memory Jane Pope and Dani Cameron Newton; great-grandson, Wylie Bennett Newton; her son-in-law, Danny Newton (Kathy); and special sister-in-law, Glenda Ward. In addition to her husband, Joe, she is predeceased by her daughters, Sharon Ward Newton and Margo Ward; her parents, Arthur Maxwell Chance and Bessie Douglas Chance; brothers, Billy Chance and Marvin Chance; and sisters, Eunice Hall, Pauline House, Elizabeth White, Edith Whitley, and Louise Chance. 

She was a sweet soul and her light will be missed by all that knew her.
