Helen Jean Moore, 91, of Summerville, SC passed away peacefully on Monday April 29, 2024, at her home with her daughter, Sheila Tucker.
The relatives and friends of Helen Moore are invited to attend her Funeral Service with Military Honors at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at the graveside, M J Dolly Cooper Veteran’s Cemetery, 140 Inway Drive, Anderson, SC 29621.
Helen was born in Newnan, GA on Feb. 27, 1933. She was the daughter of Walter and Vivian Calhoun Brooks. Helen had a full active life that included serving her country in the U. S. Army and raising a family in Orlando, Florida while completing her college education. She was a former Miss Minute Maid, enjoyed a career with General Dynamics, was an English teacher at a local Community College and finally retired from Civil Service at Martin Military Hospital in Columbus, Georgia. Helen and her husband, Alastaire J. Smith were very active retirees working tirelessly with the Veterans Museum in Walhalla, South Carolina, and the Veterans Association. She was also an active member of the Daughters of the Confederacy and Daughters of the Revolution. Helen loved planting flowers and watching them grow. She is now gardening in Heaven.
Helen’s beloved and loyal companion, Sunny, remained with her faithfully and never left her side for 9 years or throughout her final days. Sunny’s care and well-being was Helen’s top priority. Sunny will remain safe and loved with her family. Helen leaves behind daughters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and 4 great-great- grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, known as Smitty, Alastaire J. Smith who passed away in 2017.
