Henry McKnight Obituary

Henry “Mac” McKnight was born on June 13, 1939 in Florence County, South Carolina, the eldest son of the late Marion “Shorty” McKnight and Dorease Burrows McKnight. He proudly joined the Air Force in 1957 and worked as a Jet Engine Technician for 20 years, two of those being in Vietnam. After retiring from the military, he worked at Blanchard and Gregory Poole as a forklift mechanic for over 25 years. He passed away September 28, 2025 at the age of 86.

Funeral Services will be Friday afternoon, October 3, 2025 at 1 o'clock in Parks Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow with Military Honors in Highland Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Thursday evening, October 2, 2025 from 5 until 7 o'clock at the funeral home.

Henry was a kind soul that enjoyed spending time with his large family. All his life, he worked to provide for them; be it his brothers and sisters, his wife, or his children, he always made sure his family’s needs were met. He held many titles during his life: son, brother, husband, uncle, daddy, grandpa, and papa-fish. Each one full of love and endearment. He was an avid fisherman and a member of Santee Cooper Bass Club for over 40 years. He taught all of his children how to cast a reel and skin a fish.

He will be remembered for his kind eyes, loving smile, and infectious laugh.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn K. McKnight of Summerville; children, Wayne McKnight of Navarre, FL, Carl (Meghann) McKnight of Boiling Springs, NC, Marie (Zach) Moore of Kansas City, MO, Donna (Scott) Folk of Summerville, SC, Tim (Marie) Burton of Charleston, SC, Rodney Burton of Summerville, SC, and Brian (Cheryl) Burton of Summerville, SC; grandchildren, Heath and Randy Grooms, Katharine McKnight, Corey, Ryan, Logan, Tripp, Levi, Cash, and Laihlann McKnight, Raven Hartness, Brenan and Rhyan Morgan, Emily, Hayden, and Molly Folk, Ashley Burton, Carla Reffitt, Candice Smith, Julia Watts, Alivia Burton, Andalis, Gracie and Morgan Burton; 10 great-grandchildren; brother, Glenn McKnight of Pamplico, SC; sisters, Yvonne Stone of Coward, SC and Marilyn Tilton of Scranton, SC. Henry was preceded in death by a daughter, Wanda Grooms, grandsons Daniel Grooms and Michael Erlick, brothers, Wardy McKnight, Lexton “Dan” McKnight, Roger McKnight, John McKnight, and Jimmy McKnight, and a sister, Doris Ann Dennis.
