Veronica Hope (Melfi) Rigby, 76, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 16, 2023 surrounded by her loved ones.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, May 27, 2023 at 11 o’clock at Saint John the Beloved Catholic Church, 28 Sumter Avenue, Summerville, SC 29483. The family will receive friends the night before for a visitation from 6 o’clock to 8 o’clock at Parks Funeral Home, 130 West 1st North Street, Summerville, SC 29483. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in honor of Hope to Saint John the Beloved Catholic Church Building Fund.
Hope was born on January 12, 1947 in Summerville, SC to the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Francis Melfi, Jr. Hope was a lifetime member of Saint John the Beloved Catholic Church, where she was baptized and married the love of her life, Hal Rigby. She also was a lifetime member of the Summerville Preservation Society. Hope loved genealogy and studying her family’s history, caring for her yard, and taking annual summer vacations to Folly Beach with her family. Hope was kind, patient, and cared deeply about her neighbors and friends. Most importantly, Hope loved her family more than words could ever describe.
Hope is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Hal Rigby of Summerville, SC; daughter, Mary Bullard (Andy) of Greenville, SC; son, Hap Rigby (Nora) ofWashington, DC; brother, Tony Melfi of Summerville, SC; sisters, Pat Haskell of Deep Gap, NC and Angie Shirey of Summerville, SC; 3 grandchildren, Powe and Lizzie Rigby of Washington, DC and Kate Bullard of Greenville, SC; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins whom she adored. She is predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Mary Limehouse Melfi; brother and sister in law, Joseph III and Sylvia Melfi; brother in law, Robert Haskell; and sister in law, Pat Melfi.
