Iva “Joan” Lewis, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished friend and mentor to so many, entered into eternal rest on May 7, 2026, at the age of 97.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Beaufort National Cemetery. The family will receive friends for a visitation the night before on Monday, May 11, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Parks Funeral Home.
Born on March 2, 1929, Joan lived a long and meaningful life marked by strength, independence, and unwavering love for her family. Joan loved to watch sports and crochet. She was a woman of few words, but her actions always spoke volumes. Those who knew her understood just how deeply she cared.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Julia Harriet Eyre, Edgar Harvey Kingery, and Thelma Kingery; her beloved husband, Thomas “Tony” Lewis; and her siblings, Sam Kingery, Harriet K. Marriott, Helen Rockwell, Ruth Desando, Ronald Dameron, and Jack Dameron. She was also preceded in death by her daughter Kathleen "Kittie" Bruce.
Joan is lovingly survived by her children, Tom Lewis and Bill Lewis (Karen); her grandchildren, Cali Burnell (Travis), Trenton Burnell, and Channing Burnell; and her cherished extended family, Kaelynn Lewis (Keith), Michelle Gilley (David), Noel Gilley, Josh Gilley (Savannah and Brooks), Kaitlin Gilley (Cayden), her brother Harvey Kingery, along with many other loved ones and dear friends who will miss her deeply.
Joan was one of the hardest-working and most independent women many of us will ever have the pleasure of knowing, leaving behind a legacy of resilience, dedication, and quiet love. And after a long and beautiful 97 years, Joan is now resting peacefully. We love you. We admire you. And above all, we will miss you until we see you again.
