James Earl Burgess

James Earl Burgess, 82, of Summerville, SC, husband of Charlene Ruth Burgess, passed away Wednesday, March 18, 2026.

Graveside Services with Military Honors will be Friday afternoon, April 3, 2026 at 2 o'clock in Beaufort National Cemetery, 1601 Boundary Street. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 5 o'clock until 7 o'clock at Parks Funeral Home. Flowers are accepted.

James was born December 28, 1943 in Mayfield, KY, a son of the late James Lee Burgess and La Rue Burgess. He honorably served in the United States Navy for 26 years and then went on to work for Spawar as a System Engineer for another 25 years. James loved riding motorcycles, and was a part of the Southern Cruisers Riding Club. James will be missed dearly by many.

In addition to his wife, Charlene of SC, he leaves behind his sons, Eric Burgess of SC, Richard Burgess (Melissa) of MD, and Keith Burgess (Jennifer) of SC; brothers, Terry Burgess of TX and Donald Burgess also of TX; his sister, Pamela of IL; grandchildren, Frankie Freeman (Whitney), Timothy Burgess (Abby), David Burgess, Jarrett Burgess, Kyle Burgess, Carson Burgess (Brittany), Dalton Burgess; five great-grandchildren; and his beloved pets, Bear and Bandit.
