James Leonard Murphy, age 75, of Cottageville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 15, 2025.
A Funeral Service to celebrate James’ life will be held on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Parks Funeral Home, located at 130 West 1st North Street, Summerville, SC 29483. The family will welcome friends and loved ones for a visitation on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the same location. Burial will follow at Fox Cemetery, 2771 Wesley Grove Rd, Cottageville, SC 29435. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in James’ honor to the Fisher House of Charleston at https://connect.fisherhouse.org/index.cfmfuseaction=donate.event&eventID=1.
James was born on July 25, 1949, to the late Leo and Ruby Murphy. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force, dedicating many years to his service. James was a true “jack of all trades,” known for his ability to tackle anything he set his mind to. He coached for many years and was affectionately known as “Coach Murphy.” A passionate sports fan, he followed the Atlanta Braves and Atlanta Falcons with great enthusiasm. He also had a deep love for all things Western. Above all, James was a devoted family man who cherished the time spent with his loved ones, creating lasting memories that will be treasured forever.
James is survived by his loving wife of many years, Patricia Murphy of Cottageville, SC; his sons, Shawn Murphy (June) of Ladson, SC, Michael Murphy (Megan) of Summerville, SC, and Derrick Murphy (Brooke) of Cottageville, SC; his daughter, Lesa Hardee (Rob) of Walterboro, SC; his brothers, John Sain (Linda) of Jacksonville, FL, Frank Sain of Cottageville, SC, and Jay Murphy (Myrna) of Summerville, SC; his sister, Caroline Miller of Summerville, SC; as well as his grandchildren, Shonda, Shanna, Austin, Ashlyn, Bayleigh, Tony, Elaina, Levi, Lucas, and Lily, along with one great-grandchild and eight bonus grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Ruby Murphy; his brother, Oswald Izlar; and his sisters, Dawn Brockman and Jessie Hall.
James’ memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him, and he will be deeply missed.
