James Edward Rutledge Jr., 78, of Orangeburg, SC, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 26, 2022.
A Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, May 29, 2022 at 3 o’clock at Living by Faith Baptist Church. The family will receive friends an hour before the service. Entombment will follow at Summerville Cemetery & Mausoleum. Flowers are accepted.
James was born on July 26, 1943, the son of the late James E. Rutledge Sr. and Lorena Staples. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy and also a deacon of Living by Faith Baptist Church. James was a man of many trades during his lifetime, he had an associate’s degree in welding and then ended up working at Braswell Shipyard, SCE&G, and also worked for Emergency Medical Services. In his free time he enjoyed hunting, fishing and motorcycling.
James is survived by his sons; James E. Rutledge III of Windsor, SC, Joseph E. Rutledge of Summerville, SC, daughters; Tina Rutledge Arens (Jim) of Brighton, CO, Monica Rutledge (Troy) of Orangeburg, SC, Sherry Williams of Marianna, FL, Sheila Veronee of Summerville, SC and Melanie Poplin of Moncks Corner, SC; grandchildren, Jamie Rutledge, Lexi Gerhardt, Rodney Buck, Joshua Buck, Brittany Foltz, Dakota Rutledge, Austin Rutledge, Daxton Richards, Tristan Williams, Caleb Burroughs, Robert Poplin, Chelsea Peagler; his loving companions, Stella Veronee and Paula Rutledge; and 12 great-grandchildren. James also had many adopted children that loved him dearly. He is predeceased by his father; James E. Rutledge Sr. mother; Lorena Staples; step-father Eugene Staples; his brother, JD Rutledge; and his late wife, Theresa Rutledge.
