Jannie Pendarvis Thomas

Jannie Pendarvis Thomas of Dorchester, SC passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 27, 2024. Jannie was born on February 6, 1933 in Dorchester, SC daughter of Oscar Scott and Martha Ann “Mattie”Newton Pendarvis. 

She was a retired teacher from College Preparatory School and the Department of Admissions at The Citadel; an active member of Zion United Methodist Church, Duchesses of Dorchester “Red Hat Society, Ivy Garden Club, Bertie Connor’s Missionary Society, and enthusiastic member of the Silver Sneakers exercise group. Jannie was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend.

Survivors include her sons, Rusty Thomas (Carol), Tommy Thomas (Rachel) of James Island; daughter, Jan Thomas (Sam Meade) of Charleston; son-in-law, William “Bill” Barfield sister, Peggy Pendarvis Wright (Thomas) of Dorchester; brother, James William (Bill) Pendarvis of Dorchester; grandchildren Angie LaFlamme, Carrie Leahy, Summer Gerth, Jenna Muzzio, Jake Thomas, Trey Thomas, JW Dukes, Michael Platt, Brandi Farley; great grandchildren, Greta and Violet Ferguson; Cecilia Thomas;  Cord, Sophie, and Eady Gerth; Hope and Maddy Thomas; Harper, Hensleigh, and Rowan Platt; Riverlynn and Cade Farley. She was preceded in death by her parents, Scott and Mattie Pendarvis; brother, Oscar Scott Pendarvis Jr.; sister, Maxine Rosa Pendarvis; her husband of 66 years, Russell Thomas Sr.; daughters, Helen Lee Platt and Toby Thomas Barfield.

A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, March 1, 2024 at 10am at Zion United Methodist Church, 1194 Zion Road, Dorchester, SC 29437. The family will receive friends an hour before the service.
