Obituary

Joan Bishop, 80, wife of the late William Charles Bishop, passed away peacefully on January 18, 2023 at her home in Summerville.

Joan was born in New York, New York on November 1, 1942. She was the daughter of James and Irma Murphy, and twin sister of Donald. Joan was a proud military wife, moving with her husband numerous times during his Naval career. She enjoyed several trips overseas, and she and her husband especially loved living in Hawaii. They also enjoyed their retirement home in Bluffton, SC. She worked periodically as an administrative assistant at various organizations including The Baptist College (now CSU), and Chevron. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, and decorating for the holidays. She also loved the Notre Dame Fighting Irish football team. Joan and William were married for 61 years.

She is survived by her three children, Anne Marie (Thomas), Kathleen, and James (Mary); her seven grandchildren, Kelly, William, Jill, Austin, Audrey, Brittney, and Connor. She was the proud Gigi of one great-granddaughter, Sage, and was looking forward to the birth of her great-grandson, arriving soon. She was preceded in death by her husband, William.
