John Patrick Phelan

 John Patrick Phelan, 56, husband of Charlotte Phelan, of Summerville, passed away on Saturday, June 29, 2024.

The relatives and friends of John Phelan are invited to attend his Memorial Service at 1:00 PM, Monday, July 8, 2024 at Summerville Baptist Church, 417 Central Ave., Summerville, SC 29483. Burial in Florence National Cemetery will be announced when scheduled. John was born in Columbus, Ohio on December 26, 1967. He was the son of Walter (Steve) Phelan and Lois Jones. 

John was a man of many talents and passions, deeply respected and loved by all who knew him. He served honorably in the United States Navy, an experience that instilled in him the values of discipline, courage, and integrity. His commitment to his country continued as a civilian servant to the US Navy, where he continued to defend the nation.

In addition to his military service, John made a significant impact on the Summerville community. As a dedicated preacher, he was known for his heartfelt and inspirational sermons that brought comfort and guidance to many. His deep faith and compassionate nature made him a beacon of hope and strength to all who met him. John also had a passion for coaching, where he not only taught sports skills but also life lessons, fostering teamwork, perseverance, and confidence in young athletes.

Above all else, John was an extraordinary husband and father. He was a source of unwavering strength, boundless love, and constant support for his family. His honorable character, stalwart spirit, and loving nature left an indelible mark on everyone he met. John's legacy of kindness, faith, and dedication will continue to inspire and uplift those who were fortunate to know him.

He is survived by his loving wife Charlotte (56); his 5 children and their spouses, Cameron (34) (Danielle), Andrew (33), Matthew (28) (Victoria), Jacob (26) (Taryn), and Lydia (21). He is also survived by his parents, Walter Stephen Phelan and Lois Jones and his siblings, Sean Phelan, Brian Phelan, and Kathleen Holland and their spouses and children. He was preceded in death by his son, Joshua Stephen Phelan.
