John Stewart Obituary

On Sunday, August 23, 2020, John Henry Stewart of Summerville,South Carolina, loving husband and father, passed away at the age of 88.

Formerly of Norwell, Massachusetts, Jack was born in Boston on September 12, 1931. He was the son of Edmund and Elizabeth Stewart.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date in light of restrictions relating to the Covid 19 virus. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to PCSC Foundation (Memory Care) in memory of Jack Stewart, 2817 Ashland Rd. Columbia, SC 29210.

A Weymouth HS 1949 graduate, Jack served in the US Army during the Korean War in the Armored Calvary division. Upon discharge, he pursued coursework in civil engineering and began his career as a draftsman, progressing to a department head for Alonzo B. Reed, Inc. In 1973, he moved as a Project Manager to Herzog-Hart, a start-up, full-service engineering firm specializing in the design and construction of pharmaceutical research and production facilities.

An encouraging mentor and friend to others, Jack has maintained an over 60 year active friendship with Bill W. Jack loved to camp and spent many summers with his sons camping, canoeing, and playing cribbage with dear, longtime friends at Terrace Pines Campground in Center Ossippee, NH. He has been a member of Summerville Presbyterian Church since retiring in Summerville in 1997. Ever his own man and a definite “People Person”, Jack had a smile for everyone in his path. He’ll be remembered for his laugh, his jolly, booming voice, his sense of humor and the twinkle in his eye.

Jack is survived by his wife, Barbara Stewart of Summerville, SC ; his children, Ed (Cindy) Stewart of Mansfield. MA, Len (Vanessa) Stewart of Raynam, MA and Karin (Leo) Nemetz of Cary, NC. Grandchildren: Meghan, Tara, Jocelyn, Breanna, Brett, Matt and Alex ; Sister Marilyn Proctor of Kingston, MA and nieces and nephews.
