John "Johnny" Hennett Jones

John Hennett “Johnny” Jones passed away in the afternoon of August 31, 2021 in the presence of the loving and caring staff at The Columbia Presbyterian Community, Lexington S.C.

Funeral Services will be Saturday, September 4, 2021 at 1 PM in Summerville Presbyterian Church. Burial will be at 3 PM in James Island Presbyterian Churchyard, 1632 Fort Johnson Rd, Charleston, SC 29417.

Johnny was born May 24, 1940 in Nesmith, SC, the son of the late Julius Hennett “Casey” Jones and Violet Owens Jones of James Island, S.C. He is survived by three sisters, Sylvia Anne Yoder of Gilman IL, Barbara Simmons and Sara Jones, both of Summerville, S.C.; an uncle, Roger P. Owens of Kingstree, S.C.; aunt, Gayle Owens Charles of Summerville S.C.; and several cousins, nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved dearly. He was especially proud that a grand nephew has been named after his father. Johnny had a great childhood growing up on James Island. He attended James Island Elementary and James Island High School, and was an active member of James Island Presbyterian Church. Johnny joined the United States Merchant Marine and worked with Norfolk-Balitmore Lines as relief captain on their tug boats.

Johnny lived at the Village of Summerville for seventeen years, where he was dearly loved. He spent the last few months of his life at the Presbyterian Home at Lexington, where they also loved him. The family requests that any memorials be made to The Village of Summerville, 201 W 9th North Street CMR#140 Summerville SC 29483.
