Joseph Travis Fripp was born to Janie Delphine Fripp on August 20, 1969. He was baptized and accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his Saviour at Philadelphia Baptist Church in June, 1981 under the leadership of Reverend R.L. Fields.
Travis was raised by his grandparents Joseph and Bernice Fripp in Ladson, South Carolina where he enjoyed singing in the youth choir, working on cars and fishing with his grandfather. He graduated from Stratford High School in 1987. While attending Stratford, Travis established himself as an extraordinarily gifted trombone player. Upon graduation he enrolled at the University Of South Carolina, where he continued to study music.
Travis was also quite a versatile musician, having performed with the University Of South Carolina Marching Band, Left Bank Jazz Ensemble, and the USC Symphonic Band (with whom he toured Europe in 1989). He also toured with Garfield Cadets Drum and Bugle corps in the early 1990's, during which time they won DCI Championships. Travis also played and guested with local musicians and rock and roll bands, including The Soul Mites. Later in life he lived in Indiana where he launched a trucking company, Fripp Enterprises.
Travis passed away unexpectedly of natural causes on June 2, 2021. His good humor, warmth, and inner light will be missed by all those who knew him.
Travis is survived by his family in Indiana, including Griselda Yamileth Miranda Sanchez and her children Milton, Johann and Samantha, as well as Andra and Haydee Whitherspoon of Indianapolis, Indiana. He is also survived by several family members in or from the Ladson, SC area including Bernard Fripp, Linda Lewis Heyward, Cynthia Lewis Ross, Ronald Lewis, Myra Fripp Manigault, James Fripp, Andrea Fripp, and Janice Ross. In addition, Travis' legacy of laughter, love, and friendship will forever resonate with countless others that he encountered through life.
