Julie Mau Rand passed peacefully at home in Ridgeville with her family on October 9, 2024. She was born on October 8, 1947, in Littlefield, TX. After graduating from St. Andrew’s High School in Charleston, she enlisted in the Army and proudly served her country as an Army nurse in Seoul, Korea, during the Vietnam War. She was an alumna of the Newport Hospital School of Nursing in Rhode Island and was one of very few women accepted into anesthesia school at that time. Julie passionately cared for her patients as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist and truly loved her career in medicine. For decades, and in countless Trident operating rooms, Julie was blessed to work beside her lifelong friends, whom she lovingly referred to as the “Trident Golden Girls.” She loved to garden and was a member of the Ridgeville Garden Club. On any given weekend in the spring or summer, you could find Julie excitedly bush-hogging the fields and roads of her family farm in Cottageville or setting off with her beloved papillon, Belle, to camp and kayak the state’s beautiful waterways. She was a German Shepard fanatic and never left a rescue shelter without a new canine family member in tow. Julie will be best remembered as an unwaveringly devoted (albeit occasionally frustrated) Gamecock football fan. She found limitless delight in spending time with her daughter and son in law. Julie was a remarkable role model and loving mother to her daughter, who was the pride and joy of her life.
Julie is survived by her daughter, Sarah DeAnn Rand- McDaniel, and her son in law, Seth Thomas McDaniel, of Mt. Pleasant, SC. She is predeceased by her parents, Margie Blanton Mau and Peter Henry Mau, Jr.; and sister, Nancy Mau Morone.
