Laura Ellen Weaver Dodson, 91, of Summerville, SC died Sunday evening, on April 3rd , 2022 at The Village at Summerville. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, April 11, 2022 at 2 o'clock at St. Paul's Anglican Church. Burial will follow in St. Paul's Anglican Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul’s Summerville Anglican Church at 316 W. Carolina Ave., Summerville, SC 29483.
Mrs. Dodson was born on June 28th, 1930, the daughter of Dr. Richard Carlisle Weaver and Laura Meares Weaver, and grew up in Asheville, NC. She graduated from Louisiana State University in 1952 and was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. She was also a member of the American Association of University Women. She married Clinton F. Dodson Jr. on August 2nd, 1952. Ellen and Clint raised their family in Maitland, Florida. They also lived in Winter Springs, FL and Flat Rock, NC before coming to Summerville, SC.
She enjoyed life at home with her husband and children for many years. She was an active volunteer, serving as a “Pink Lady” at the Winter Park Hospital, working with the Christian Service Center in Orlando, Florida, and she was a “Friend” of the Summerville Orchestra. Ellen was also very active in her the church she went to, singing in choir, serving on altar guild, and serving on pastoral care groups, etc. She loved to travel with her husband, and they went on many wonderful vacations. They lived in Germany and Switzerland for a little while in their younger days. She had many hobbies and past-times but she got her greatest joy from playing bridge, which she began playing at 14 years of age with her parents. Over the years, she and Clint participated in many bridge groups and clubs where they made wonderful friends.
She is survived by her two sons, Carl Dodson and his wife Barbara, of Green Cove Springs, FL and Doug Dodson and his wife Patty, of Moncks Corner, SC; four grandchildren, Kellie Marie Brown, Clinton Thomas Dodson, Jared Weaver Dodson and Whitney Laura Dodson Rush; a goddaughter and a godson; and several nieces & nephews.
She has had a joy- filled life, blessed with lots of love from God, her husband, her children and many friends and family. She truly lived a happy life here on this beautiful Earth and she looks forward to life eternal with her Lord, her husband and the other many loved ones who have gone before her.
