Linda Darlene Evans was born Linda Darlene Powell on December 31, 1950, and she passed away on April 25, 2026 in Summerville, South Carolina, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 75 years old.
Linda earned a Master’s Degree in Education from Southwestern Oklahoma State University, which set the foundation for a career defined by service. She was a public school teacher and PE coach before finding her true professional calling at the South Carolina Board of Disabilities, where she served as a recreator and caregiver for people with multiple disabilities. She treated every person with dignity and respect.
To those she worked alongside and those she cared for, she showed up with energy, warmth, and purpose and always gave more than was required. Her volunteer contributions extended that same devotion beyond the workplace earning her recognition at The Coastal Center, The Special Olympics, and Dorchester Seniors Incorporated where she volunteered during retirement until her health started to decline.
But to know Linda fully, you had to know her at home. She was always teaching or telling stories. She had a heart for the elderly and the disabled. She found joy in the kitchen, baking beloved recipes like banana pudding and homemade biscuits, and she enjoyed working in her garden where she grew flowers from seeds she had carefully dried from other flowers.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Donnie Dale Evans, and her sister, Patti Hoeppner, and her brothers-in-law Tom Howell and Ron Hoeppner.
Linda is survived by her three children: Donnie Dale Evans II, Loretta Ann Evans and her longtime partner James Steven Hartley Jr., and Veronica Renee Boulden and her husband of twenty-five years, Dwayne Boulden, along with their three children, Linda’s grandchildren, Norah, Avril, and Adele Boulden.
Linda had nine siblings. She is survived by her brother Ross Hamilton Powell and his wife Kaye, and their children Karen and the late Billy Powell; her brother Milton Charles “Buddy” Powell and his wife Diane, and their children Jeffrey, Jennifer, and Julie; her sister Gladys Irene Howell and her children Andrew and Matthew; her brother Phillip “Bubba” William Powell and his wife Mariia Zhurynska, and his children Tyler and Tayler; her brother Doug Kitchens and his wife Dawna, and their son Jay; her sister Pamela Koss and her husband Gil, and their children Brittany, Mikalah, Allyson, Kim, and Kelly; her sister Kim Weber and her husband Lee, and their children Christopher, Elizabeth, and Micah; and her sister Lisa Beth Friesen and her husband Greg, and their children Nicholas, Brandon, and Brittany. She is also survived by her niece Courtney Paige Green, daughter of her late sister Patti Hoeppner.
Linda’s memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 23, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Parks Funeral Home in Summerville, South Carolina.
