Lola Betty Hayes

Lola Betty Hayes, 88, wife of the late Joseph Ignatius Hayes, Jr., of Summerville, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on Monday, March 13, 2023.

The relatives and friends of Betty Hayes are invited to attend her Funeral Service at 1:00 PM, Thursday, March 30, 2023, at Parks Funeral Home Chapel, 130 W. 1st North Street, Summerville, SC 29483. Burial will follow in Summerville Cemetery. The family will receive friends from noon until the time of service on Thursday.

Betty was born in Portland, Indiana on February 11, 1935. She was the daughter of the late George and Gertrude Hathaway. She was an incredible self-taught artist. Betty created hundreds of folk-themed and still-life paintings, ceramic work, and a variety of other artistic styles that she had significantly mastered during her life.  Betty’s amazing cooking, sense of humor and desire to bring happiness to others will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

 Betty is survived by her children, Linda Long, Cassandra Shyrock, George Shyrock, Jr. and Mark Shyrock; as well as dozens of grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 46 years, who passed away in February, as well as her son, Scott Shyrock.
