Obituary

Margaret Elizabeth Schwabe, 83, wife of Edward Schwabe, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away on Friday, June 3, 2022. The relatives and friends of Margaret Schwabe are invited to attend her Funeral Service at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, June 7, 2022, at Parks Funeral Home Chapel, 130 W. 1st North Street, Summerville, SC 29483. Burial will follow in Summerville Cemetery. Margaret was born in Florence County, South Carolina on July 21, 1938. She was the daughter of Blease and Mary Todd. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Mt. Pleasant and the Women’s Bible Study group. She was an avid gardener and received her certification from Clemson University of Master Gardener 16 years ago. Margaret retired as the manager of the Coast Guard Exchange after a 20-year career. She took the small exchange and expanded it to offer anything from uniform needs, a package store, unique gift items and jewelry. She made many friends of the customers that shopped there and was asked to be on the lookout for special items when she went on buying trips. They trusted Margaret’s taste in their request and she always had satisfied customers. Margaret was also a member of the Day Lily Society, Rose Society, and participated as a Docent for the Charleston Historical Society. Margaret and Ed were definitely meant to be together. They had a 40-year marriage filled with love, laughter and adventure. They loved to play jokes on each other. One of Margaret’s most memorable jokes was when she sewed the legs of Ed’s undershorts together. She and Ed took many trips over the years exploring the US and experiencing things she had only dreamed of before. She was a wonderful cook and loved nothing more than to have her family over on Sundays for dinner. Anytime her daughter Sherrie called for cooking advice, she would ask for Julia Childs and Margaret would imitate her and say “How may I help you?” One of her other passions was fishing. She liked the old fashion way with a cane pole and worm. Margaret loved the Lord and the many friends she made in church. They haven’t forgotten her even when she couldn’t remember them. Margaret is survived by her husband, Edward Schwabe; her children, Frank “Robbie” V. Todd, Jr. (Joyce), Mark R. Todd and Sherrie T. Benard; her step children, Sharon Rogers (Harry), Rick Schwabe (Cathy), Robin Heaton (Stan) and Penny Morris (Danny); her siblings, Junior Todd (Janice), Michael Todd (Laura), Richard Todd (Betty), Barbara Fredericks (Joe), Louise Segars and Sandra Kelly; her grandchildren, Jennifer, Alex and Mark Jr.; step grandchildren, Ashley, Samantha, Wyatt, Bryce, Will, John, and Erica; her great grandchildren, Kennedy and Jackson. Margaret was predeceased by her parents, Blease and Mary Todd; siblings, Delanoe Todd, Billy Todd and Linda Richberg; step grandchild, Eric Schwabe. and her brother-in-law, Kevin Kelly.
