Martha Jones Obituary

It is with broken hearts that we share the news of the passing of Martha Jones of North Charleston at Trident Medical Center on August 4th, 2025. She was born in Lowell, MA on March 20, 1950, and was predeceased by her parents Chester Lowrey and Pauline (Jones) Lowrey and her husband Richard who passed away in 2006.

She was the beloved mother and best friend of Vanessa (Jones) McNamara and relished the role of Nana to her furry grandbabies Nigel, Miss Tillie and Pippa.

Martha was a role model for her siblings Penny (Angelo) Valente, Peter (Marybeth) Lowrey, Larry (Leona) Lowrey, Rhonda (Bobby) Plamondon, Norma (Jim] Levasseur, Joanne (Rick/deceased) McKenney, Rita (Gary) Bryand and Martha Jones (George Hobbs).

She was loved by several nieces/nephews and cousins as well as several surrogate daughters who were children of her heart. She also had some of the best neighbors in the world (this has been verified)!

Martha loved to travel with Vanessa and visited many countries, but no visit was better than a trip “home” to the Boston area. A visit in early July is now an even more treasured memory.

Martha was proud to mentor medical students through MUSC Senior Mentor Program and openly shared her home with exchange students. The door was always open for anyone who needed a place to stay or just a kind face. After she retired from MUSC’s Office of Public Safety she worked as a school crossing guard for the Dorchester 2 School District and was looking forward to the start of the new school year. She loved the families, children and coworkers she saw every day and counted them among her good friends. She never met a stranger and was never more than a phone call away.

Life for those she leaves behind will never be the same, but we were all blessed to have had her in our lives.

The family would like to extend sincere thanks to the ICU staff at Trident Medical Center for their compassionate care of Martha and her family during her last days. Their genuine kindness was appreciated very much.
