Matthew Elias Copeland, 38, of Ridgeville, passed away on Friday, June 24, 2022, from a motorcycle accident where the driver of a pick-up truck attempting to make a left turn suddenly pulled out in front of Matt leaving him with nowhere to go and a skid mark from trying to brake to avoid the collision. Matt loved riding a motorcycle, only second to how much he loved his children. He leaves behind three children, Ashley Isabelle 19, Matthew Elias Jr. 16, and Abigail 13; his twin brother and best friend, Nicholas; sister, Amanda; step brothers, Genar and Theodore, and half-brother, Thomas Chance. Matt and his twin brother were born in Weisbaden, Germany, on May 10, 1984 to Thomas James Copeland Jr. and Valorie Jean Bonn (U.S. Air Force parents). The relatives and friends of Matthew E. Copeland are invited to attend his Funeral Service at 3:00 PM, Sunday, July 3, 2022, at Parks Funeral Home Chapel, 130 W. 1st. North Street, Summerville, SC 29483. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM until the time of service on Sunday. In lieu of flowers, the family requests you donate to Matt’s children at https://www.gofundme.com/f/matthew-copeland. Matt was an avid motorcycle rider; he loved the freedom and thrill of the road. He was also an outdoorsman, truck driver, and heavy equipment operator. He enjoyed music and attending music festivals. Matt worked most of his adult life in the family business with his father. He has lived in Germany, New Jersey, California, Washington, Japan and Hawaii. However, he spent the last 25 years in South Carolina and called it home. All of his children were born in South Carolina, and he was a Gamecocks fan. Matt was out going and always willing to help his friends and family. His smile and sense of humor will be sorely missed by those who knew and loved him.
